The Uprising is a New York City giving circle that exists to empower an army of everyday superhero citizens to rise up to address the challenges facing New York City. The focus of our work is to champion “the other,” New Yorkers thrust into the hot seat as targets of persecution or disenfranchisement. The Uprising is a nimble and responsive engine, powering the institutions that serve the evolving needs and priorities of New York City’s most vulnerable populations.
Three times per year, we collectively commit to a five-step process to rise up:
Educate our community on core issues facing NYC.
Illuminate the best solutions to address those issues.
Evaluate and identify the most effective organizations and individuals.
Donate our time and money to individuals and orgs making the biggest impact.
Iterate every quarter to deepen our impact and refine our approach
At the conclusion of each giving cycle, we evaluate work in the field and award a grant ranging from $15,000 – $25,000 to organizations and individuals on the ground with the boldest proven solutions.
2017 Cycle 1 RFP will be released April 30, 2017 – Check back for more details.
